Creating Dimension with the Hydraulic Press - Pocosin Arts

I’m so excited to be teaching, in-person, at Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft in North Carolina! Please join me for a jam-packed week long exploration of the hydraulic press!

Students in this workshop will use the hydraulic press to explore new possibilities for creating dimension in their metalwork. Participants will learn how to: make their own acrylic silhouette dies, utilize die combinations in the press to cut and form metal, use die forming and soldering techniques to create hollow forms, emboss metal, and more! We will focus on ways to create depth, complexity, and repeatable pieces for production work or for one-of-a-kind pieces.

Level Up with the Hydraulic Press - Online Workshop

This workshop will be taught virtually through Pocosin Arts on Zoom’s video platform.

In this two-day hydraulic press workshop, I will guide students through different forming processes and combinations of accessories to achieve complex forms in metal. Participants will learn how to make their own custom two-sided silhouette die and the soldering techniques needed to start creating small hollow forms with the hydraulic press. I’ll also demonstrate how to use a variety of bracelet-forming tools, impression dies, and other combinations of dies to create complex and repeatable three-dimensional pieces for production work or for one-of-a-kind pieces.

This is an intermediate to advanced level workshop. Students should be comfortable with the basic operation of a hydraulic press as well as basic sawing, filing, and soldering processes.

Friday, January 13th and January 20th, from 3pm to 5pm Eastern Standard Time

Hydraulic Press - Sampler Quilt Virtual Workshop

Hydraulic Press - Sampler Quilt Virtual Workshop

This workshop will be taught virtually through Pocosin Arts and the Zoom video platform.

A fast-paced workshop that will introduce participants to creating form and texture in metal with the hydraulic press to create a “sampler quilt.” Participants will learn how to achieve results not easily accomplished with any other methods by using the hydraulic press to experiment with techniques such as embossing, pillowing, forming, bending and die cutting.

Workshop participants will learn to utilize mechanical or “cold connections” that require just a few tools and no soldering. Cold connections will be used to “piece” our metal quilt together, fasten metal layers to one another, and incorporate found objects like beads and shells.

Thursday, August 25th, and Thursday, September 1st, from 1pm to 3pm Eastern Standard Time
